Local mineral collecting and trading groups and clubs

Below you’ll find a list of Whatsapp groups, facebook pages, clubs and societies you can join to further your hobby, grow your collection or get involved with things like field trips, lapidary, workshops and informal get-togethers. If you have any you’d like to share then please contact us and send through the information!

Discord:

Discord is a chat and messaging application, much like the old school forums and is much used by hobbyist groups internationally. There are several UK and EU discord servers – We have created the first South African one for mineral collecting. It’s quite intuitive and may remind some of you of the old IRC days!

Mineral clubs:

There are two somewhat active mineral clubs left in SA – The Pretoria Gem and Mineral Club (PGMC) as well as the Cape Town Gem and Mineral Club (CTMINSOC). You’ll find information about them with some googling, or you can get in touch with us and we’ll hook you up. 

As an online club, we do have this website, Facebook and Discord, with active members, planned field excursions and occasional get togethers as-well.

We are active on Facebook – Here – Maybe not as active as we’d like, however this website and supporting platforms are meant as a catch-all to bring everyone together. 🙂
